Tennessee History

Tennessee was once the western section of North Carolina, and became a major passageway west for the brave pioneers crossing the Appalachians.  Following the American Revolution, many veterans were given land grants in Tennessee on which they settled and raised families.  In 1796 Tennessee became the 16th State. Traditions are old and proud.  From the mountains to the delta, from the home-spun to the powerful, Tennessee maintains its unique diversity, its rich heritage, and its place in the early history of our country.
