Chickamauga History
Chickamauga was chosen as the name of the first chapter of the DAR in Chattanooga when it was organized on October 7, 1894, just four years after the National Society was founded. Chickamauga was the third chapter in Tennessee and the 128th chapter in the National Society. We are proud of our 115 years service to our community and country.
The
first regent was Mrs. Amelia Morrow Chamberlain who served from 1894 to
1900, and for two additional terms later on. Mrs. Chamberlain was
also Tennessee State Regent from 1901 until 1904, and served the National
Society as Vice President General.
In 1915, the chapter assisted in the founding of two other Chattanooga chapters - Nancy Ward and Judge David Campbell.
Our members have given thousands of hours of dedicated work during our 115 year existence. Every member has had a part in this patriotic, educational, and historic work. We intend to go on presenting the DAR ideals to future generations!
