The Colonel Jethro Sumner Chapter was organized 21 October 1931, in Gallatin, Tennessee, at the

home of the first regent, Grace Franklin House.  The chapter, as well as county, was named for Colonel

Jethro Sumner, "one of the most distinguished General Officers of the Continental Line to survive the war."

Gallatin is located in Sumner County, Tennessee, approximately 25 miles northeast of Nashville.

The town was founded in 1802, and is the county seat.
