June term of the Court gives the following information "Shorten Smith,
citizen of Tazewell Co. VA. came into Court and declared an oath that
he served in the Rev War in the Continental Service against the common
enemy, states that he entered with Capt. H. Debais, State of NY, marched
from Poughkipsee to Senectedy and joined the company of Capt. Samuel Pell
and afterwards marched to John Town Fort, where he was marched to Fort
Stanwix and was left a guard at Princeton. Discharged at Sanke Hill, NJ
of June 7 ,1783
