Continental Congress
As most of you have heard by now the National Society made the somber but necessary decision to conduct an on-line version of Continental Congress this year. In the President General’s Blog yesterday a detailed explanation of the event details was given explaining why it has been changed and how we will move forward. I encourage you to read the blog and to view the video announcement made yesterday for additional information. This will be first for our society, and while I am sad that we will not be able to meet in person this year, I am excited to see the National Society embrace technology to see that we are still able to conduct the business of our organization and still conduct elections. We will be seeing more information from the NSDAR on how this will be conducted in following weeks.
Tennessee Tea and Tour
Since Congress has been moved to an on-line format, this will impact our Tea and Tour event that was scheduled for June 23 at the National Cathedral. As we will not be going to Washington, D.C. for the 129th Continental Congress, and as National Cathedral will be closed through the month of June, the Tour and Tea at the National Cathedral has been cancelled. Full refunds will be issued in the next several days by the original payment method. If you registered for this event, please look for the refund to appear on your credit card, or to receive a check in the mail, by May 15. Hopefully we will all be together for the 2021 Tennessee Congress Event!
Tennessee Statehood Day
The Tennessee Statehood Day and Awards Ceremony was scheduled for June 1, 2020, at the State Capitol. Unfortunately, we were informed that we would not be able to use the State Capitol this year due to health concerns related to COVID 19. The Tennessee General Assembly will be reconvening that week and it will be impossible for them to adequately clean the building between our event and session. Because of the difficulty in securing another event space and the general uncertainty about group restrictions in June, the TSDAR Board decided that the Statehood Day and Awards Ceremony will have to be cancelled this year. The student award winners and the sponsoring chapters are being contacted and the awards are being mailed to the winners. We will celebrate these outstanding students with various social media posts over the next couple months, so please look forward to learning about the winners and their awards.

During this season of social distancing your state society officers have continued to conduct virtual board meetings, informational meetings with our district officers and chapter regents and even a virtual Outstanding Junior announcement. We will continue to virtually meet to share information during this time and plan to continue to explore new technology to help keep us all more connected. To that end I hope that you will consider subscribing to the State Regent’s Dogwood Notes. Based on requests during our 2019 workshops, we have created a subscription service much like the President General’s Blog so that you can have our Dogwood Notes delivered straight to your email. As more and more on-line information is being shared this is a great way to stay up to date with Tennessee news and updates. There is also a new subscribe tab on the blog page for easy access while on the state members site as well.

When we said this would be a different administration we never could have known that this would have been the result, but with support of the Tennessee Daughters we are making it through this season. I am confident we will be better for it when we are done.
In Service, Cecile
