Getting Ready for the 115th State Conference

I hope you are excited for our first virtual state conference set to start this Saturday! Our state conference committee is hard at work putting the finishing touches on our program, and I think you are in for a real treat. While it isn’t quite the same as being together, Saturday morning we will see many of the things we had planned for the in-person state conference. Updates and materials for the conference can be found on our new State Conference web page and I hope you will visit to learn more about our programs. Additionally the schedule, links to view the live conference events, download your own official conference program, and links for additional presentations will be available on that page.

Delegates should have received their login materials and they may begin to log into our Zoom delegate site starting at 8a central /9a eastern. At 8:30a central we will have a wonderful program on Berry College that we would have featured during the previously scheduled Juniors/Schools Breakfast. The story of Berry is one that every DAR member show hear and this presentation was created specifically for our Tennessee Daughters. Members should be able to tune in to watch the Berry presentation on our YouTube channel as well as the rest of the events though out the morning session.

Scott Breithaupt with Berry College

At 9am central we will start the business session and along with officer reports, and voting we will be featuring a keynote from our President General Denise Doring Van Buren. I am also pleased to announce that we will presenting several of the awards that would have been given at our April state conference. We have so many wonderful winners that we will be acknowledging including our Tennessee Outstanding Chapter Regent for 2020 which will be revealed for the first time Saturday.

Denise Doring Van Buren, State Conference Keynote Speaker

Immediately following the business session we will be presenting 2 national presentations – one on our brand new insignia store and another on the President General’s Project sales. Both of these presentations have been sent to our sister states that will also be having virtual conferences and workshops this fall. For any daughter that has questions about our pins and our new process to get them, I would encourage you to watch and learn more about this fantastic addition to our headquarters.

Miranda Fraley-Rhodes with the Tennessee State Museum

At 2:00p central we will be airing a presentation from the Tennessee State Museum on their current 19th Amendment exhibit. This was to be our featured speaker and topic for the Women’s Issues Luncheon in April. With the current shutdowns this exhibit has not been seen by many Tennesseans and so we are thrilled to have this presentation available for you on Saturday.

Our Memorial Service will air at 3:00p central on Saturday. We have a lovely service planned to honor and recognize the daughters that passed during 2019. The wreath will feature a flower for each daughter and an iris for each district and we plan to place it on the grave of DAR Daughter Febb Burn, Harry Burn’s mother on August 18 as we rededicate her DAR marker.

Finally if you are a Regent, you will want to join the Regent’s Club meeting at 5:00p central. Login instructions along with registration information for that closed Zoom meeting has been sent out to all club members and perspectives.

I am so excited to be with you tomorrow for this ground breaking event. Tune into Facebook tonight for a special invitation and announcement.

In Service, Cecile
