Hope you had a relaxing, refreshing, and fun summer. Thank you all for the hard work and devotion you have shown to the DAR Good Citizens Committee. School is now in session, and there are a few updates/reminders below:
Late Summer / Early Fall
- Each Chapter sets its own deadline according to the school schedule; but it must meet the deadline of November 1, 2023, to get the winning essay to the District Vice Chair.
- Great news! A few of the NSDAR Good Citizen forms are now writable and savable. The Chapter Chairs can now fill out the forms online, save them, and email to the schools. However, if you prefer to make hard copies and distribute them to schools, that is acceptable, also.
- Chapter chairs, working with the chapter treasurer, may order DAR Good Citizens award packets from the NSDAR Store.
- Please note: Scholarship Essay Instructions (DGC-1003, may not be transmitted electronically). This form contains the essay title and focus question. After completing chapter contact information, please print and place this form in a sealed envelope, per instructions, before sending it to the school.
Recognize, Reward, and Publicize! Present the Good Citizens award to the school winner as soon as possible so that he/she can be recognized as such all year. Many chapters honor their DAR Good Citizens at a chapter meeting, tea, or luncheon, and invite parents and school advisors. In addition, you may also present the award at a school honors program. Be sure to contact your local media so that your community knows how your chapter supports patriotism and education! Also include a Photo Release Form, NSDAR -1000, in each school packet. It is available on the NSDAR website.
