Statehood Day Youth Awards Ceremony – May 31

Hello Tennessee Daughters! I hope to see many of you at our TSDAR Statehood Day Youth Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 31. Please read the information below from Awards Chair and 1st Vice Regent Carol Teeters. Love, Emily

Tennessee is a state in which history resonates with every footstep. Tennessee was designated as a territory in 1790, and admitted to the Union as the 16th state on June 1,1796. As members of the Tennessee Society DAR we have the honor and responsibility to celebrate our state’s legacy.

Against the backdrop of heritage and patriotism, we will gather to honor the achievements of Tennessee’s young citizens. The annual TSDAR Statehood Day Youth Awards Ceremony will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) at 11:00 a.m. This program recognizes the winners of the American History Essay Contest, the Patriots of the American Revolution High School Essay Contest, and the Tennessee History Poster Essay Contest. We also recognize the DAR Good Citizen winners, scholarship recipients, and the DAR Service to Veteran Youth Award recipient.

Additionally, as a part of this year’s festivities State Regent Emily Robinson will present the book, Patriots to Pioneers, the First Tennessee Volunteers to Tennessee State Librarian and Archivist, Mr. James Ritter. The TSDAR is excited to make this book available to the citizens of Tennessee via our beautiful State Library and Archives.

Attendance at this event is an opportunity to support our young scholars and to learn of their impressive accomplishments.

You will also be able to commemorate the 228th Anniversary of statehood by viewing Tennessee’s three (3) Constitutions and learning about the important role the TSLA plays in preserving our state’s history. Some chapters may even choose to make this a chapter “field trip” and spend the afternoon engaged in research or visit the Tennessee State Museum which is right across the street.

So, make plans to attend TSDAR Statehood Day. Let’s come together to celebrate the achievements of these exceptional students who are carrying the rich legacy of Tennessee into the future!
