Dear Tennessee Daughters,

In May, 2023, I had the opportunity to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony at Kate Duncan Smith DAR School in Grant, Alabama, for their Centennial Celebration Project. Part of that project involved taking down several large hickory trees from the campus. TSDAR State Treasurer and KDS graduate Helen Moore decided it would be a shame to waste those trees which had stood for so many years. Along with her husband Marty, Mrs. Moore coordinated bringing the trees to Tennessee, having them sawed into lumber, and the lumber dried at a local kiln.

You have already read about the gavel made from part of the hickory that was presented to NSDAR at Continental Congress last June. But there’s more! TSDAR will again be making a presentation to both the school and the KDS Board at a special ceremony on October 4th at 1:00 p.m. This presentation will include other items made from the hickory wood that was sawed in Tennessee and made by a Tennessee craftsman.
Please make plans to be at the Dedication Day ceremonies on the morning of Friday, October 4th, and then stay for the FAMOUS basket lunch and the dedication ceremony at 1:00 p.m.
Visitors are expected from all over the country, including the NSDAR Executive Board. You will not want to miss this special time as KDS celebrates its 100th Dedication Day ceremony, and in which TSDAR will play a special part. Today is the registration deadline – you will use this link: https://www.kdsdar.org/dedication-day
If you plan to attend, please let the school know so they can include you in their lunch count! For more information, please contact Mrs. Moore at helencartermoore@gmail.com
Thank you for your Volunteer Hearts in support of our DAR School!
