Celebrating the Beginning of the American Revolutionary War!

Dear Tennessee Daughters,

On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott rode to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock about the British army’s advance to Lexington and Concord. The official beginning of the American Revolutionary War began the next day, April 19, with the battles at those towns. I hope that you will join the celebration in at least one of the following ways.

Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative to commence the celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States of America by commemorating the famous ride of Paul Revere and using the imagery of that shining light as a uniting call to action for our citizens to celebrate and serve. You can join this nationwide effort on the evening of April 18, 2025, by displaying two lights, such as battery operated candles or lanterns, in your windows, and you can also encourage your local government offices and businesses to do the same. To commemorate the campaign the cupola of the Tennessee State Capitol in Nashville will be lit with two lights, red and blue, on the evening of April 16, 2025 and the overnight into April 17, 2025.

On April 19, the Tennessee Society will place a marker to commemorate the 1941 Tennessee Society DAR Memorial Forest, and we will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Please join us in this dual commemoration! The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST at the corner of Postelle Road and Hwy 64/74 in Copperhill, near Ducktown, Tennessee. You are also invited to a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 358 Hwy 64, in Ocoee. Reservations for the lunch are $15, and should be mailed to Dianna Callaway by April 1. Please check your inbox for the invitation which was sent on March 11, 2025

Another way to celebrate this momentous event is by attending the Saturday lunch at our TSDAR 120th State Conference. Author Jeffrey McKenna will speak on his book Saving Dr. Warren…”A True Patriot.” Dr. Joseph Warren was one of the key players in the famous midnight ride and the Battles of Lexington and Concord. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn more about our nation’s history at our 120th State Conference. Today, Wednesday, March 26, is the deadline for state conference registration, without paying a late fee, so please register today!

I hope that you will join the celebrations with citizens across the nation!
