TSDAR Wreath Laying at Arlington Cemetery

Whether you are attending Continental Congress in person or watching from home with Congress Online, you will enjoy reading about this special opportunity for our Tennessee members who will be in Washington D.C. Welcome to guest blogger TSDAR 2nd Vice Regent Nannette Feeback! With love, Emily Robinson

The Robinson Administration is pleased to announce that the Tennessee Society will be participating in a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery Tomb of the Unknown Solider on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at 1:15 pm. Please plan to attend this meaningful ceremony if you are in Washington DC for Continental Congress.

The Tomb of the Unknown Solider is hallowed ground. This is where we pay our respects to all those who fought for our country and who made the ultimate sacrifice. According to Arlington National Cemetery, the purpose of the legislation which created the tomb was “to bring home the body of an unknown American warrior who in himself represents no section, creed, or race in the late war and who typifies, moreover, the soul of America and the supreme sacrifice of her heroic dead.” At the Tomb, sentinels stand watch 24 hours a day, every day, in all weather. These elite military members are part of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment.

The changing of the guard will occur at the Tomb at 1:00 pm. Please plan to arrive early to witness the changing to the guard, which is a solemn ceremony that is not to be missed.

The cemetery has a tram from the Welcome Center to the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. Tickets for the tram can be purchased the day of the event in the Welcome Center or in advance online at https://www.arlingtontours.com/ This is a hop on/hop off tram tour that includes a history narration of the cemetery. If you choose not to purchase a ticket for the tram, you may walk from the Welcome Center, but please note the walk is uphill and is quite a distance from the parking area. Allow plenty of time from your hotel to arrive at the Welcome Center, and then to arrive at the Tomb. Members do not need to wear pins. Dress is business casual with keeping the weather in mind. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes as you will be standing. We hope to see many Tennessee Daughters in attendance!
