Since 1966, the Chucalissa Chapter, NSDAR, has served Memphis and Shelby County. Today, our chapter is a diverse group of women from different backgrounds bound together in service and sisterhood. We endeavor to carry the torch of patriotism to honor our Patriot ancestors and to foster patriotism for future generations.

The name of our chapter was adopted from the Chucalissa archeological site. Located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, Chucalissa, which means “abandoned house” in Choctaw, is a prehistoric American Indian mound complex in Memphis, Tennessee. The earthen mounds are believed to have been constructed and occupied between 1000 and 1500 A.D.
Today, the site portrays the village as it would have appeared in 1400 A.D. The museum and grounds include a hands-on archaeology lab, a variety of exhibits, a nature trail, and a fully certified arboretum.
