Located at 5501 Nine Mile Road, Maryville, Tennessee 37801.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 1786, Bakers Creek Presbyterian Church has one of the oldest cemeteries in Blount County. Elizabeth Paxton Houston, mother of Sam Houston, is buried here along with five Revolutionary War soldiers: Samuel Thompson, Andrew Kennedy, Magnus Tullock, Samuel Henry, John Ryder and Thomas Montgomery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samuel Thompson.<\/strong> Born 3-23-1752, Ireland. Died 1-8-1839, Blount County, Tennessee. Soldier in Tennessee Militia in War of 1812. Chapter placed a government marker in 1975.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Kennedy.<\/strong> Born 8-12-1751. Died 5-5-1834, Blount County, Tennessee. Chapter placed a government marker and a SAR marker in 1922.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Samuel Henry.<\/strong> Born 1762, Hanover County, Virginia. Died 7-13-1824, Blount County, Tennessee. Chapter placed a government marker and a SAR marker in the 1920s. Exact marking date is not known, but it is one of the nine SAR markers the chapter acquired in 1922, for marking Revolutionary War graves.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\"\"Andrew\u00a0 Cumming.<\/strong>\u00a0 Was born April 12, 1759 in Lancaster Co. Pa. and died Nov. 27 1834 in Blount County. He is buried at Bakers Creek Cemetery. Andrew served in the Revolutionary War on the Pa. Line in company of Capt. Steel of Col. Cunningham s Regiment. Andrew married Jane Paxton the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (McClung) Paxton in March 1785. She died in 1841 in Blount County. She was the sister of Elizabeth Paxton Houston, mother of General Sam Houston.<\/p>\n

\"\"Private Joseph McConnell. <\/strong>Joseph McConnell’s\u00a0Revolutionary War service is documented by the Published Pa. State Archives, Fifth Series, Volume Six , Page 247. His military service was in Cumberland County. Pa. Militia . His first tour was in 1777 and second tour in 1781. Joseph was married to Susan Milligan (1745-1839) in 1770 at Pa. They relocated to Blount County in 1785. Their daughter Jane married William Hannah, May 27, 1794 of\u00a0 Blount County.<\/div>\n
