Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter, NSDAR
In 2014, an Organizing Regent began laying plans for the organization of a DAR chapter to fill the void left by the dissolution of the Mossy Creek Chapter, NSDAR, on April 16, 1988. By unanimous decision, the chapter was named after Martha Dandridge Washington, the first First Lady of the United States of America and the namesake of one of the cities which the chapter serves.
MDW Chapter, NSDAR, Organized on February 6, 2016
On February 6, 2016, the Organizing Secretary of the Tennessee State Society, NSDAR, presided over the meeting of the organization. Eighteen members, which included eight officers, were installed. The event was held at the historic Shepard Inn, circa 1820, in Dandridge, Tennessee.

MDW Chapter,NSDAR, Chartered on December 8, 2017

On December 8, 2017, the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution issued a charter for the Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter, NSDAR, inscribed with 23 charter member names. The State Regent of the Tennessee State Society, NSDAR, signed the charter on April 20, 2018, at the 113th Tennessee State Conference in Franklin, Tennessee.
MDW Chapter, NSDAR, Joined Regents’ Council on August 27, 2019
On May 19, 2019, the Regent of the Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter, NSDAR, met with the regents of the Samuel Doak, Spencer Clack, and William Cocke Chapters, NSDAR, at the call of the Regent of the Spencer Clack Chapter, NSDAR, to discuss the benefits of organizing a Regents’ Council. As a result of this meeting, a letter was forwarded to the Regent of the Tennessee State Society, NSDAR, which requested permission to organize a council “to purposefully serve these geographically adjacent chapters through supporting each other with the sharing of ideas and experiences, and agreed upon projects that further the mission of the state and national societies.” The Tennessee State Society, NSDAR, Regent gave her approval for the council and on August 27, 2019, a meeting of organization was held and the council was unanimously named Greater Smoky Mountain Council of Regents.
The Martha Dandridge Chapter, NSDAR, serves Jefferson County, Tennessee, and the surrounding Appalachian area.
