Our Service

Daughters in Service to “God, Home, and Country”

The Daughters of the Martha Dandridge Washington Chapter, NSDAR, strive to maintain the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American independence.

Historic Preservation

Our members are actively involved in recognizing and celebrating major events in American history. Daughters volunteer at historic Glenmore Mansion, circa 1868, to help maintain the interior and the period-correct herb and flower gardens. Individual community members are recognized and honored for their contributions to historic preservation. The graves of American Revolutionary War Patriots are photographed and catalogued.

Education

Empowering youth to become well-informed and active citizens is a priority for the chapter. Constitution kits are distributed to classrooms. The DAR Good Citizen award and a chapter scholarship are presented to a local high school student. The JROTC Bronze Medal is awarded to a local high school student for an earned record of military and scholastic achievement. These awards are presented each year. The chapter and its members donate time and resources to DAR schools and local classrooms.

Patriotism

Members recognize and celebrate all veterans both past and present. Those in nursing homes and assisted living facilities receive visits, cards, telephone calls, and snacks. New American citizens are welcomed at naturalization ceremonies. Donations are given to organizations that assist veterans. American flags are placed on the graves of veterans.
