1997 Celebrating 100

100th Anniversary

On October 9, 1997, the chapter celebrated Old Glory’s 100th birthday at a chapter meeting held at 118 3rd Avenue North in Franklin which was the location of one of the chapter’s first organizational meetings. One hundred years later, a portion of the chapter meeting was conducted in the upstairs room where the 1897 meeting took place. A commemorative photo taken on the front steps that day includes thirty-eight Old Glory members.

On December 13, 1997, an anniversary tea was held at historic Montpier. Tennessee State Regent attended and presented to Georgia Ann Spencer, Old Glory Regent, a certificate honoring Old Glory Chapter’s 100th anniversary. Sun Trust Bank, located on the square in Franklin, made available their window for a display of memorabilia associated with Old Glory’s anniversary.

In conjunction with the anniversary, Old Glory Chapter placed a NSDAR marker on the grave of our Organizing Regent, Miss Susie Gentry.
