Buffalo River Chapter History

Buffalo River chapter took its name from the Buffalo River that rises in northwestern Lawrence County. The course of the river is in the shape of an "L". It flows westward through northern Lawrence, southern Lewis, and northern Wayne Counties to Flatwoods in Perry County It then turns northward and flows through Perry and Humphreys Counties to its confluence with Duck River. Buffalo River area is rich in ancient history. Artifacts dating back ten thousand years have been found. It is noted for its scenic beauty and is now known as a "float stream". Buffalo River chapter DAR was organized October 18, 1967 by Organizing Regent, Grace Morrow Bryan.
