Historic Preservation

DAR members support a variety of projects to help preserve our cultural heritage.  A major ongoing project is to preserve genealogical records, artifacts and historical documents.  DAR not only preserves them but makes these items available to the public at our library at DAR Headquarters and online thorough our GRS (Genealogical Research System) which can be found at DAR.org.

Some of our other historic projects include restoring and maintaining historical sites; locating, restoring, and marking Revolutionary War patriot gravesites and headstones, and organizing and contributing to major restorations, commemorations and memorials.  DAR members place monuments around the world to memorialize people and events throughout American history. The Mary Blount Chapter has worked passionately to identify and place dozens of markers on gravesites and historic sites in Blount County, Tennessee since our founding in Maryville in 1921.
