1897 Newspaper Announces Formation of Old Glory

1897 Newspaper announcement

From The Williamson County News, October 14, 1897,

“This grand old historic county has a chartered organization of which she may well be proud, for by it patriotism will receive new life and vigor. This organization is the ‘Old Glory’ chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

“Miss Susie Gentry, the appointed Regent, and the following ladies compose this notable order of earnest and patriotic women:  Mesdames Martha Jones Gentry, Annie B. Winstead, Bettie Fentress, Loulie C. Perkins, Jennie K. Collins, Estelle M. Bostick, Leighla P. Cochrane, Lucy H. Horton, Ophelia C. House, Atha Thomas, Hattie McGavock Cowan, Macon B. Beckwith, Misses Lou Reese and Pearl Wall, worthy descendants of brave true Revolutionary stock.

“With such a motto as the chapter has – ‘Our Glorious Banner! the Hope of the Free’! – we feel sure ‘Old Williamson’ is safe in one quarter, at least. Long may their motto last and that banner wave over the homes of the free.”
