The Alexander Keith Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on January 23, 1926, by Penelope Louise Keith, our organizing regent. Mrs. Keith was one of 14 charter members. Mrs. James B. Frazier, the past regent of the Chickamauga Chapter, NSDAR, located in Chattanooga, Tennesee, was the sponsor of the chapter since it was at her request that the Organizing Regent, Mrs. Lousie Keith, be appointed. The group suggested the chapter be named Alexander Keith in honor of the American Revolutionary War ancestor of the organizing regent. After a vote, it was officially submitted as the chapter name to NSDAR and approved.
We are located in the eastern area of Tennessee and named after Lieutenant Alexander Keith, an American Revolutionary War Patriot born in Prince William County, Virginia, on July 2, 1748. Athens is a beautiful area of eastern Tennessee, rich in history and known for its farmland and friendly people.
As of 2023, the Alexander Keith Chapter, NSDAR, membership has grown to over forty members. Our primary focus is to promote patriotism, historic preservation, and education while honoring our Patriot ancestors.
Do you think you have ancestors who were in America at the time of the American Revolutionary War and are looking for a rewarding experience?
Do you have a relative who is or was a member of DAR? We offer membership to any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from an American Revolutionary War Patriot. We will happily work with you to determine your eligibility to join.
Meetings are held monthly from January through May and September through December. We warmly welcome visitors to our meetings and new members to our chapter. If you would like more information or to attend one of our meetings, please contact the chapter regent or registrar.
