DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

JACKSON-MADISON CHAPTER

JACKSON, MADISON COUNTY, TENNESSEE

IS YOUR ANCESTOR A REVOLUTIONARY WAR PATRIOT?

DON’T KNOW?

WE CAN HELP.

“Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage and death, as well as of the Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.” (NSDAR website)

To be accepted by the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) as a Revolutionary War patriot, the ancestor must have provided service with some exceptions, for the period between 19 April 1775 (Battle of Lexington) and 26 November 1783 (withdrawal of British Troops from New York).  Acceptable service is not limited to military service.  Many patriots provided money or supplies for the war effort; others provided civil service. A complete list of acceptable service is found on the NSDAR website.

The Jackson-Madison Chapter holds monthly genealogy workshops to assist any woman 18 or older who desires to become a member of DAR.  We will help you with genealogy research, provide guidance regarding documenting your patriot’s service and your lineage, and assist with the application to NSDAR.
