About Us

We are Today’s DAR!

The Samuel Frazier Chapter, NSDAR, is a Knoxville, Tennessee, area chapter, composed of women from all different backgrounds and age groups. We are a vibrant and active group of ladies who share not only a common bond of having an ancestor who aided American independence, but also a passion for community service, preserving history, and honoring those who have served our nation. Our chapter continues to grow each year, and we welcome new members. We are happy to walk you through the process of joining the DAR and our chapter.

During 2019, our 45 member chapter logged over 1,605 service hours. We support a variety of organizations, such as A Hand Up for Women, our community schools, the Ben Atchley Veterans’ Home, the Veterans Resource Center at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and many more. During the pandemic, many of our members have been sewing masks and making ear guards for local hospitals and front line workers. We look for every opportunity to serve our community.

We meet once a month on Saturday morning, September through May.

Historic Preservation

Helping to maintain the past for future generations is an important mission of the NSDAR and our chapter. Preserving our history has many different forms. Here are just few of our chapter’s activities: participating in cleaning and maintaining historic sites, providing grave marker for a veteran, and helping prospective members trace their lineage to the American Revolution. Education

Our chapter is passionate about education and supporting schools in our community. Here are just a few of our activities: honoring DAR Good Citizens and Junior American Citizens, providing a new American flag for one of our high schools, donating gift cards for two schools of chapter members, tutoring students, and more. Patriotism

We strive to foster patriotism in our community, state, and nation. Our chapter regularly attends Naturalization Ceremonies to welcome some of the newest American citizens and participates in local activities to celebrate July 4th and Veterans Day. We support veterans who live at a local veterans’ home in our community, veterans attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and place wreaths on veterans’ graves.
