For Prospective DAR Members

Today, more than 1,000,000 members have joined in the founders’ footsteps and continue to honor their determination and love of country through grassroots volunteer work. When you join the DAR, you join a network of women passionate about serving our country and preserving our heritage for future generations.

If you live in the Knoxville or the Knoxville area, and believe that one of your ancestors may have served in the American Revolutionary War, we would love for you to join the Samuel Frazier Chapter, NSDAR. We can help you navigate the process to join the DAR. Qualifying Patriots are men and women who aided the cause of American independence by providing military, patriotic, or civil service. The NSDAR has genealogists who specialize in helping prospective members research their French-Canadian, African-American, Spanish, and Native American heritage.

Who can join the DAR? Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR.

New to genealogy? We can help.

Our members and volunteer genealogist are available to help you throughout the process of discovering your Patriot ancestor. They will walk you through the process about what documents you need, as well as where to find them.

For NSDAR Members and Transfers

The Samuel Frazier Chapter, NSDAR, welcomes transfers from other chapters and associate members. Several of our members are transfers from other areas of the country. If you are ready to learn about the transfer process, fill out the form on the Contact page.

Historic Preservation

Helping to maintain the past for future generations is an important mission of the NSDAR and our chapter. Preserving our history has many different forms. Here are just few of our chapter’s activities: participating in cleaning and maintaining historic sites, providing grave marker for a veteran, and helping prospective members trace their lineage to the American Revolution. Education

Our chapter is passionate about education and supporting schools in our community. Here are just a few of our activities: honoring DAR Good Citizens and Junior American Citizens, providing a new American flag for one of our high schools, donating gift cards for two schools of chapter members, tutoring students, and more. Patriotism

We strive to foster patriotism in our community, state, and nation. Our chapter regularly attends Naturalization Ceremonies to welcome some of the newest American citizens and participates in local activities to celebrate July 4th and Veterans Day. We support veterans who live at a local veterans’ home in our community, veterans attending the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and place wreaths on veterans’ graves.
