Gamble's Station historic markerLocated near the present Coulter’s Bridge, across from the Little River, on the old Walland Highway, about 6 1/2 miles from Maryville, Tennessee.

In 1790, Josias Gamble built a house and fort near the Little River to serve as protection for nearby settlers and for those as far away as Tuckaleechee Cove. A list of frontier stations in Dec. 22, 1792, lists Gamble’s Station as being manned by 13 men, five of whom were on furlough, commanded by Lt. William Reagan.
